Questions for the GUTGAA Meet and Greet
-Where do you write? In my home office is where the thoughts get nailed to a hard drive but I write in my head when I'm walking, driving, pretending to watch TV, falling asleep, etc.
-Quick. Go to your writing space, sit down and look to your left. What is the first thing you see? Sleeping Jack Russell Terriers - they take their supportive role quite seriously.
-Favorite time to write? Mornings, after walking with my dogs.
-Drink of choice while writing? Coffee, hot, iced, doesn't matter.
-When writing , do you listen to music or do you need complete silence? Silence is best though I often listen to something prior to actually writing to get into a particular mood that relates to the work.
-What was your inspiration for your latest manuscript and where did you find it? A combo of location (my favorite local old graveyard) and online images of 19th century women with albinism.
-What's your most valuable writing tip? Have a reasonably clear idea of your book's destination/end, but allow yourself freedom during the journey.
Mini-bio: Fancier of all things Gothic, vintage, and beautiful (separately or in combination). Choco-fiend. Dog wrangler. Beachcomber. Nature lover. Housework slacker. Easily irritated by pen clicking, gum smacking, change jingling and tuneless whistling.
HA! I click my pen all the time and the sound is calming. Gum smacking on the other hand, is annoying, so is someone chewing any type of food. It's cool to learn more about you, Rhiann! Great writing tip. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the nest you've built!
ReplyDeleteThanks Yolanda! Very much a WIP... Going to check out your blog now.
ReplyDeleteGreetings!
ReplyDeleteI'm hopping over from GUTGAA and trying to visit some blogs before the fun begins! Nice to meet you...you have a lovely blog...good luck with GUTGAA!

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I LOVE the inspiration for your WIP. Sounds fascinating and unique. Are you aiming it for an adult audience or YA? I'm a fan of Gothic literature. Jane Eyre is my most favorite book of all time.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you!
And thank you for stopping by mine! It's a YA book (the MC is 17). I love Jane Eyre too. Tendril definitely has a nineteenth century vibe because Opal (my MC) grew up isolated from peers, TV, the internet.
DeleteRhiann,
ReplyDeleteI'm a fellow Halloween stuff collector. :-) Looking forward to the blogfest.
For whatever reason, it doesn't recognize my blog nor my Google account so I'm Write On on the blogfest list. My name's Dawn.
Hi, thanks for visiting. I just hopped over to your blog and posted a comment - we have funny stuff in common :)
DeleteAlbinism, interesting! If you're doing to pitch polish be sure to link us so I can see it! Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteYes, originally I envisioned my MC with flaming red hair, but then Brave came out and I had to rethink and I actually am very glad. I don't know how to link us - I just started a blog last month and feel pretty clueless about the tech end of almost everything. I will be doing the pitch thing.
DeleteHi, Rhiann, thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteI love the nest analogy, very appropriate!
Have a great day. Best wishes, Wayne
Thanks Wayne! See you at Writer Unboxed and on Twitter.
DeleteHi Rhiann, thank you for stopping by my blog earlier. I too am a dog wrangler, her idea of support is to give me sad faces as I write. I love the idea of having more gothic style fiction out there, and with your modern day twist and a Rapunzel bent, I just can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for popping over! Yes, my dogs are good at making me feel guilty for not playing with them enough (in their opinion). Let's hope some agents are looking for Gothic :)
DeleteI like to sit down to writing after walking my dogs too. The exercise clears my head.
ReplyDeleteYes, and almost more importantly makes them take a nap.
DeleteI'm a cat wrangler ;) My cats sit on me while I write. haha.
ReplyDeleteI also know what you mean about writing in your head. I do that too.
Nice answers here, Rhiann. And it's good to meet you through GUTGAA.
Ah yes, my dogs like to sit on me while I (try to) write too. I'm thinking I should get a much bigger chair because typing with one hand is pretty tedious. I am going to hop on over to your blog now...
DeleteHey Rhiann,
ReplyDeleteJust dropping by during my optimal reading time to say nice to meet you! I'm a big coffee lover, too :)
Cheers and have fun during #GUTGAA!

I didn't comment on your blog because my browser isn't compatible but I tweeted you!
DeleteHaha, do worries :) Good luck!
DeleteSorry I'm so late in stopping by! Thanks for commenting on my blog - how interesting that your daughter is from Russia! And I love that we both have dead MCs. We should introduce them ;) And congrats on your newborn blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Let's see a dead blind date...interesting.
ReplyDeleteI really want to see where you're going with that set of inspirations...
ReplyDeleteLiana
Well, ideally to publication ;-) Tx for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteOh, I like your inspiration! My 11-yr-old and I enjoy taking walks through cemeteries and reading about those who live their permanently. The older the cemetery, the better.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely - the older the better! Thanks for following :-)
DeleteHello! *waves* So nice to meet you! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog :)
ReplyDeleteAnd those pups!?!? So cute! I have a pup of my own and she lays by (or on) my feet while I write. Gotta love a writing companion... that doesn't talk ;)
And thank you for stopping by/following mine. Yes, they are adorable (which is a good thing because they've cost a small fortune in dog toys). My boy dog is a foot warmer too.
DeleteHi Rhiann! I love your dogs! They're too cute. I'm with you: I'm always thinking about my characters, the story, etc. so that I don't just write when I sit with my laptop, but always. I have a long commute to work and a lot of "prewriting" happens during that time. I love that a graveyard is part of your inspiration!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to "meet" you! :)
Rhiann - I came by to check things out! If you look at my history, I just figured out my key to consistent posting in February. But now I have a schedule and "deadlines" and I make sure I get my four posts per week done. Sometimes I might do a post on an "off" day if I have special news to share or in this case, the Meet and Greet post needed to be completed early in the week. Good luck with your writing endeavors!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean. Technically I'm L. Rhiann. I loathe the name associated with the L so only use it when forced to (driver's license, dr's office, etc). See you in cyberspace. You shall be my blog-post-scheduling idol.
DeleteRhiann,
ReplyDeleteI always get the best ideas when I'm walking so right after walking your dogs must be a great time to write.
"Gothic, vintage and beautiful" has such a great feel to it. Makes me want to step into your world.
Very nice to meet you. Good luck with GUTGAA.
Thanks for visiting! I joined your blog, let's keep in touch!
DeleteThank you for stopping by my blog. I love the way you've phrased your answers to my hunch is your manuscripts are scrumptious.
ReplyDeleteAdorable dogs. I love dogs.
Nice to meet you!
Thank you. And my dogs thank you too, they never tire of love hearing how adorable they are. Glad you came to visit.
DeleteOooooh, albinism. I'd read it! See you around GUTGAA.
ReplyDeleteGood to know, Jenn! I just went to your blog and left you a comment :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd the prize for best GUTGAA answer to "What was your inspiration..." goes to YOU! Graveyards and historic albinism, intriguing. Thanks for dropping by :D
ReplyDeleteBut I don't have my acceptance speech prepared! EEK. Thanks for hopping over.
DeleteHousework slackers unite! ;) The inspiration behind your latest WIP sounds fascinating. Nice to meet you, Rhiann. :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, when my husband saw that he snorted and muttered something evil under his breath. Honestly there is just so much BETTER stuff to do than vacuum.
DeleteHi, I'm a GUTGAA latecomer just stopping by. I'm writing in my head all over the place too--much to my kids' chagrin. "Mama? May I tell you something? Mama?... Mama!!!" Good luck with the blog and with GUTGAA!
ReplyDeleteHey there Eileen, thanks for visiting! I do lots of nodding and smiling too, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't ;)
DeleteLove the pic. You've made my evening.
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks...they are cute. Hooligans, but cute. Thank you for joining my blog, I liked your facebook page and followed you on Twitter.
DeleteHello! It's so nice to meet you! I'm stopping by to say hi from GUTGAA. Isn't it exciting:) The next few weeks are going to be crazy busy times and I am so looking forward! I hope to make a lot of new friends and learn a lot about the writing and publishing process.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to you!
Talynn
Hi Talynn, What you said. Lol. Is your name Welsh?
DeleteStopping by to say hi. Nice to meet you. Love your writing tip.Good luck with GUTGAA!
ReplyDeleteHi Diane, thanks for stopping by. I'll go visit your blog right after I take the dogs out for "business", if you get my drift.
ReplyDeleteHi! It's so nice to meet you! Thanks for visiting my blog! I like yours, and your stories sound very intriguing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining mine - I just signed up for yours, liked your FB page and followed you on Twitter. I put up a new photo on my FB(author)page just for you, come see! It's something we both like.
ReplyDeleteYou're. Adorable. Still laughing over your supportive Jack Russell-- they look very serious about their duties. Like the image of words nailed to the HD. I have albino's in my ms! They are powerful women w/supernatural abilities. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteahhh . . . love typos with my coffee in the AM. Jack Russells. :)
DeleteNot typos - simply mortal fingers unable to keep up with lightning fast thoughts. Coffee does help. Yay for albinistic characters NOT portrayed as villains. Would love to hear more about your ms.
